Welcome to the Star Refining Market News page. We research and interpret the market continuously, and it's our pleasure to share the insights we review. Experts express varying opinions at any given time — so we always recommend not relying too heavily on their predictions.
Today we're seeing gold push higher, between $4,427 and $4,438/oz — up $60 (1.38%) on the day on fresh CPI data. Silver ($66, up 2.34%), platinum ($1,771, up 1.96%), and palladium ($1,365, up 1.56%) are all rallying as well.
What's Driving the Rally
- July CPI came in at 2.5% — keeping the Fed's debate over interest rates on hold
- Weaker US jobs data, reducing rate-hike expectations
- China's gold consumption up 1.23% in the first half of 2026
- Continued central-bank and safe-haven buying around the world
- Hopes for the re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz, easing geopolitical pressure
The Bigger Picture
In January, gold peaked at $5,589, with many experts predicting a long-term future well above that level. We then saw a period of continued decline, with gold falling below $4,000 at times. Since June, a rally has been building on weaker-than-expected US jobs data and hopes for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a recent interview with Kitco News, David Miller — CIO and Co-Founder of Catalyst Funds — said:
"I think you could see $5,000 an ounce, but I think it could take two, two and a half years to get back there."
